Objective: 

This course is designed to:

  • Develop ability to create weaves.
  • Enable students to understand and learn methods of developing fabric from various fabric making techniques.

Unit I: 

Yarn processing for staple fibers by conventional spinning syste; Alternate spun yarn process: Open end spinning (rotor), Twistless spinning

Unit II: 

Preparatory stages of weaving: winding, warping, drafting drawing in parts of loom, motion in weaving; Types of loom: handloom, powerloom- shuttle less, water jet loom and air jet loom, shuttle loom, rapier loom, projectile loom

Unit III: 

Weaving; Weaving terminology: weave, graph paper, draft, peg plan, dent and denting; Classification of weaves; Construction & properties of basic weaves, plain, twill, satin and sateen weaves

Unit IV: 

Fancy weaves and their construction: Honey comb, huck-a-back, Diaper, diamond, mockleno, crepe, bedfordcord, leno, pile, double cloth, weaves with extra warp & weft yarn; Effect of weave on fabric appearance and performance
